Figure 1. Institutional Intelligence
My book Institutional Intelligence is about a simple idea:
Most organisations are using AI to automate work… but they are missing the thinking behind the work.
AI can help write emails, summarise documents, create reports and produce faster outputs. But the real value inside an organisation is not just the final document or decision.
It is the reasoning that sits behind it.
- Why was a decision made?
- What risks were considered?
- What assumptions were made?
- What judgement did an experienced person apply?
- What lessons should the organisation remember next time?
That is institutional intelligence.
The book explores how organisations can use AI not just to move faster, but to capture reasoning, preserve knowledge, improve governance and make better decisions over time.
Because if we only automate the output, we may lose the very thing that made the work valuable in the first place.
